BOTANICAL SPECIES: Curcuma longa L. ORIGINS: Southern China, Formosa, Java, India, Southern Africa, Central America.
DESCRIPTION: the rhizome of turmeric, improperly called root, occurs in rounded pieces of the size of a hazelnut, if coming from the main rhizome (Curcuma rotonda), or in elongated pieces of 5÷6 cm, when it comes from the ramifications, covered by a yellowish or greenish epidermis. It has a strong smell and aromatic taste reminiscent of ginger.
USES AND APPLICATIONS: it is mainly used as a natural dye (once vegetable fibers were dyed). It is also used as a condiment and in compositions of sauces. It is the basic ingredient of curry, which owes its characteristic yellow-ocher color to turmeric.
STORAGE: The product should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from sources of light and heat.
MINIMUM SHELF LIFE: 24/36 months in compliance with the storage methods.
