BOTANICAL SPECIES: <\/span> Papaver Somniferum.<\/span><\/h3>\n

ORIGINS: <\/span>the plant from which the small peacock blue seeds are obtained is the opium poppy, annual and native to Asia.<\/span><\/h3>\n

DESCRIPTION: <\/span>poppy seeds do not have narcotic properties since the milky juice of the seedlings from which the drug is extracted is already dried when they are ready to be harvested; this juice does not develop at all on plants grown in colder regions. Given the tiny size of the seeds, it takes about 900,000 to have 450 g of poppy.<\/span><\/h3>\n

USES AND APPLICATIONS: <\/span>the seeds are widely used on some types of bread, sweet donuts, cakes and biscuits both to decorate and to flavor. To take full advantage of their aroma it is recommended to toast them lightly in the oven or pan at moderate heat. From the seeds of different species of Papaver somniferum an oil is obtained in abundant percentages (from 44 to 50 %). By means of a first cold pressing, about 30\u00f735 % of the oil contained is obtained; a second hot pressing provides 10\u00f712 %. The first pressure oil (1st quality) is used as edible both only and mixed with other oils; the second quality one can be refined and give an edible product or it can be used for soaps, paints and ordinary colors.<\/span><\/h3>\n

STORAGE:<\/span> The product should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from sources of light and heat.<\/span>
