BOTANICAL SPECIES: Juniperus Communis.
ORIGINS: the juniper, from which the infructescences improperly called berries are collected, is a shrub (sometimes reaches arboreal growth) very widespread in the northern hemisphere, in particular in the hilly and mountain resorts rich in woods. Excellent qualities are also collected in our Alps and the Balkans.
DESCRIPTION: the characteristic berries of juniper are spherical, about 7Ă·9 mm in diameter, the surface is smooth, purple-brown, covered with a thin white dust. Inside is contained a red-brown pulp formed by three oblong and bony seeds. The smell of the berry is aromatic and the taste, at first sweetish, is made at maturity slightly acrid.
USES AND APPLICATIONS: juniper finds various uses: to obtain its essential oil, to prepare alcoholic and aromatic beverages, sauces and preserves. In medicine it is used as a stomatal and diuretic.
STORAGE METHODS: The product should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from sources of light and heat.
MINIMUM SHELF LIFE: 24/36 months in compliance with the storage methods.
