BOTANICAL SPECIES: Coriandrum sativum L.
ORIGINS: the place of origin of the coriander plant is the eastern Mediterranean basin. It then spread to almost all of Europe and is currently cultivated mainly in Russia, England, Asia Minor, North Africa and Eastern Europe.
DESCRIPTION: The used part of the plant is the fruit, improperly called seed. It has a spheroidal shape (with a diameter varying from 2 to 4 mm), yellow-brown color and consists of two concave-convex mericarps. The harvest of the fruits takes place at ripening, in August: fresh have a less pleasant aroma than when they are dried.
USES AND APPLICATIONS: as a condiment and in medicine as a carminative. The essential oil that is abundantly obtained from the fruits is used a lot in liqueurs and, still for food use, as a flavoring of sauces and mustards, as well as in pharmaceutical preparations as a corrective of nauseating flavors of medicines.
STORAGE METHODS: The product should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from sources of light and heat.
MINIMUM SHELF LIFE: 24/36 months in compliance with the storage methods.
